The Reaction Shot http://www.reaction-shot.com Because just saying "WTFM8" is never enough. Tue, 03 Jul 2007 17:36:24 +0000 http://wordpress.org/?v=2.2.1 en The Ring’s The Thing http://www.reaction-shot.com/2007/07/03/the-rings-the-thing/ http://www.reaction-shot.com/2007/07/03/the-rings-the-thing/#comments Tue, 03 Jul 2007 17:25:35 +0000 Wormwood http://www.reaction-shot.com/2007/07/03/the-rings-the-thing/ There's a part of me that is getting very tired of hearing the same rhetoric over and over again: "If I can't do this thing, I'm being persecuted". Technically, that "part" is all of me. I guess Christians should be able to disregard rules as long as they're displaying their faith. Whose face is on that coin, again?

]]>
Apparently chastity rings are now required symbols of the Christian faith. At least, that’s the only thing I can surmise from this post at Michelle Malkin’s blog. Rant after the jump.

Nudist Emperors and Cognac http://www.reaction-shot.com/2007/03/22/nudist-emperors-and-cognac/ http://www.reaction-shot.com/2007/03/22/nudist-emperors-and-cognac/#comments Fri, 23 Mar 2007 03:57:24 +0000 Wormwood http://www.reaction-shot.com/2007/03/22/nudist-emperors-and-cognac/ I attempt to deal with the over-application of the fable of the Emperor's New Clothes in modern media and journalism. I'll give it a shot, at least. Oh, and cognac. Gotta talk about the cognac.

]]>
Stop-Using-WordsIn this, the illustrious second installment of my “Words, words, words” category, I will tackle the fable of the Emperor’s New Clothes. Why? Because I’m getting more than a little tired of hearing the phrase “the emperor has no clothes” bandied about when someone just doesn’t want to get the point. There will even be a bit about a proper application to a recent cognac commercial! Oh yes, there will be fun tonight!

Inconceivable! http://www.reaction-shot.com/2007/02/27/inconceivable/ http://www.reaction-shot.com/2007/02/27/inconceivable/#comments Tue, 27 Feb 2007 11:51:57 +0000 Wormwood http://www.reaction-shot.com/2007/02/27/inconceivable/ I attempt to tackle the use of the word "bigotry" in the media and the blogosphere, with possibly confusing and confused results. All a part of my new "Words, words, words" feature (AKA "Stop using words").

]]>
Stop-Using-WordsWell, Joral’s decided to start his “Word of the Day” feature, and has even been so kind as to give me a degree of credit for the title (of course, we all know it’s a quote from The Princess Bride), but so far he hasn’t seen fit to actually bring up a particular word. So I’m going to scoop him, and beat him to his own punch with my own first installment in “Words, words, words”: Procrastination.

Jessica Hall is joined by talking heads and even her victim in proclaiming that the sentence is "disproportionate". I'm going to take a look at this from within the actual letter of the laws involved.

Remember way back (three posts ago) in my Mission Statement, when I said that I’m not going to turn my blog into a linkfarm? Well, that still holds, but I figure I might as well explain my choices of formatting.

With all those ads, they've become an exceptionally pervasive force these days. Normally, I don't object to most ads, even most of eHarmony's saccahrine-laden tripe. What I do object to, however, are ads that include little more than thinly-veiled attacks against detractors.

I know, I know, everyone’s complaining about eHarmony these days. With all those ads, they’ve become an exceptionally pervasive force these days. I’m sure everyone can answer this one: How does eHarmony match people? Say it with me, class: Twen-ty-nine-di-men-sions! Gotta love those twenty-nine dimensions of compatibility, doncha? They ensure you’ve found you a soulmate!

In this post at the Volokh Conspiracy, Prof. Eugene Volokh raises the question of what could happen to Insecure.org owner Fyodor Vaskovich in regards to the recent GoDaddy/Myspace/Seclists fiasco. Well, so I have a blog. Not very pretty yet, not very populated, and most definitely not very popular. At least I’ve decided what to do with it! Life is full of what my friends and I call “WTFM8 moments”, those points in time when you want to point at something, drop your jaw to the floor, and scream “What The F***, Mate?” in a chipmunk voice. It’s really easy to get by on just that, I know.

But rather than this blog simply being my personal pissing contest with reality, I’ve decided I’d like to categorically, systematically, and best of all, transparently explain my thought processes on different topics, from Constitutional Law questions to girls who brag too loudly about the drugs they’ve done within the past hour. Since I am both an Internet-based lifeform and a college student, expect a lot of comments about articles from blogs on my blogroll, as well as the occasional “Okay, so in Physics class…” moments. You might get one about my Economy professor sooner than you think…
