A Quick Note On Formatting

Posted in Site News at 22:34 by Wormwood

Remember way back (three posts ago) in my Mission Statement, when I said that I’m not going to turn my blog into a linkfarm? Well, that still holds, but I figure I might as well explain my choices of formatting.

First off, there’s my “Full Transparency” mode. This is for when I’m going to break down an article bit by bit. Here’s how it goes:

What I (Supposedly) Know: These are the facts as I am aware of them. I may not have all the facts, and some of my facts may be wrong. Rest assured I have vetted my facts as well as I can. If someone has said that something happened, I report it here just like that - not that it did happen, but that someone said it happened. If that person’s statement is false, feel free to correct it via comments. I will, however, request that corrections have their own sources - I hold no quarter for “you’re wrong; change it because I said so” arguments.

What I Interpret: This is the part where I give my interpretation of the facts. Specifically, this is the result of me putting facts in a mental blender and attempting to apply logic to the results. If you feel the need to contest my interpretations, again, I require reason in exchange.

My Opinion: This is my emotional and visceral reaction to the facts as I am aware of them. Pretty simple, right?

Reaction Summary (Pure Opinion): This is my reaction to the entire situation, including parts of the story that may not have been included in the bullet-points. While I may draw on the facts for guidance in shaping my reaction, I’m responding to more than just the confined facts of this situation.

Final Thought: It’s my blog. I deserve a soundbite, dammit. ;)

The other format is, well, freeform. Usually just for “quick” reactions to things. I’ll still try to keep fact separate from opinion. I may go back and revise freeform posts to the Full Transparency format, I may not. Again, my blog. And I welcome you in.
